Grade PO7 Salary: £49,674 - £52,746 - Market Supplement of £9k per annum

Taking a lead role here in our new team, you’ll soon discover that your ability to empathise with residents and to really listen to their needs, is as important as your technical knowledge and housing experience. You’ll oversee the collation, distribution and control of data across the team and our supply chain. From cladding and building inspections to EWS1 and remediation instructions, you’ll drive continual improvement in resident safety.

The work we need to do is far-reaching and varied. We have more than 80 high-rise blocks and a large number of low-rise buildings in the Borough. So the portfolio offers unique challenges and opportunities – informed by the results of our external wall systems survey. Within this setting, you’ll manage the inspection programmes for our buildings and collect the information necessary to develop comprehensive Building Safety Cases. You will advise on assessment, review and develop suitable method statements for the inspection of our building's, building materials and quality of work - acting as a technical safety expert and providing insight on defect identification and remedies.

We’re looking for someone with considerable experience of managing and advising on quality in relation to building safety – ideally gained in a large organisation. You’ll be an expert when it comes to investigating and resolving building defects - and you’ll be confident working on construction projects right through from initial planning to occupation. You’ll have an excellent knowledge of building pathology, construction methods and materials – as well as the relevant regulations. 
You must also have a Building related undergraduate degree or 5 years’ relevant experience in a senior position, relevant to this role and Membership of CIOB or RICS, IFE

The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east.  It is well connected  by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium. It has a thriving arts quarter with the Theatre Royal Stratford East offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
