Job Purpose
Developing and supporting thin film vacuum deposition processes, managing process development projects from benchtop through pilot and industrialisation with a strong focus on Amcor’s Sustainability targets. The role requires a collaborative, flexible and dynamic approach, having close links with external suppliers, manufacturing teams, R&D pilot, analytical and R&D, marketing, product management, sales and customers, in order to deliver breakthrough innovations leading to sales and profitable growth.
Job Dimensions & Scope
Responsible for leading process developments for thin film vacuum projects, primarily focussed on advancing the performance, efficiency and understanding of Amcor’s SiOx PVD process and products and encompassing other thin film vacuum deposition processes including metallisation, AlOx, etc..
Principal Accountabilities
• Responsible for running Process Development projects focused on vacuum deposited barrier technology to be further used in converted products.
• Support the preparation and delivery of capital expenditure projects related to thin film vacuum deposition
• Identify clear targets and project costs. Meet project plans, create regular project up-dates and monthly reports
• Involvement and alignment with Manufacturing teams, Marketing, Product Management and Sales to ensure project prioritization and budgeting
• Develop close links with external equipment suppliers of relevant technologies
• Manage complex development projects involving processes, material design and substrates
• The role requires close links with R&D teams to deliver barrier substrates that will primarily be used in finished converted flexible packaging products
• Coordinate and support process development activities with manufacturing plants
• Responsible for the trial and sample reel budget for own projects
• Assist Pilot Operations and Analytical Laboratories during project execution
• Support knowledge transfer and innovation opportunities through the preparation of presentations, workshops and meetings to ensure full company alignment
• Carry out materials testing using relevant analytical techniques, developing new methods as required
• Provide technical leadership and expertise in thin film vacuum deposition processes and products

Technically complex projects requiring interface with a wide range of stakeholders; external suppliers, research partners, cross-functional coordination through Amcor different functions to guarantee clear targets, smooth execution and reliable roll out.

Knowledge and Experience
• Minimum 5 years of related experience, preferably in vacuum roll to roll coating of flexible materials
• Preferred physics / materials science or engineering background
• In depth knowledge of practice and principles of thin film vacuum deposition processes
• Knowledge of packaging materials and analytical techniques
• Project Management experience and proven project leadership role
• Standard knowledge of usual IT tools ( Microsoft Office…)
Education and Certifications
• University degree in related science, engineering or technical discipline
