Job Purpose and Impact

Senior Laboratory Technician will play a crucial role in the laboratory to make sure the necessary testing is performed on the samples and the results are validated and reported in a timely manner. This will be achieved by making a smart planning for daily laboratory activities and ensuring that required lab supplies are available, instruments are working properly, maintained and calibrated, the methods are validated, and proficiency tests are in control. He/she will also make sure that EHS processes are timely updated and followed by the lab personnel and visitors.

Key Accountabilities

• The senior analyst has an oversight over incoming samples, plans execution of analyses, and communicates results. He/she also keeps customers updated when deadlines cannot be met.
• Processes and reports all the results related to a project and/or new applications to stakeholders within the team as well as across multiple Cargill locations.

Provides support in development and validation of methods, installation of new instruments, validating the systems which are related to analytical tasks in projects or new applications.
• This person is an all-round senior analyst who also covers the routine lab analysis when necessary.
• Provides nontechnical or technical support to laboratory personnel, including instrument troubleshooting, conducting quality checks on finished products, assisting in auditing laboratory results, communication with vendors for needed maintenance of instruments, etc.
• Handles issues and problems with a certain level of independency, e.g. for the first-line troubleshooting, and when needed escalates more complex issues to lab lead, appropriate experts or connects with vendors.

Implements and maintains GLP processes in the lab and ensures that the processes are followed by the lab personnel, participates in lab audits and takes ownership of follow-up actions.
• Supports further improvements of the different monitoring and maintenance programs in the laboratory (e.g. governance programs).
• Maintains stock of lab supplies and chemicals by timely handling orders.
• Acts as EHS champion, leads and contributes to safety improvement and infrastructure projects in the lab.
• Assures proper transfer of work between colleagues, trains technicians where needed.
• Other duties as assigned


MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field or equivalent experience with minimum 5 years laboratory experience
• Experience in leading lab-related projects and initiatives
• Experience and affinity with equipment troubleshooting
• Ability to communicate fluently in English (Dutch is an advantage)
• Problem solver, practical and pragmatic attitude, result-driven, customer-focused and team player.
• Ability to prepare, read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
• Basic computer knowledge including Microsoft office
• Experience with method validation and statistical data analysis (e.g. using Excel or Minitab)

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• At least one year of experience in senior position in laboratory.
• Food or protein industry knowledge
• Experience with analysis methods for food/feed
• Experience with instrumental techniques such as NIR, HPLC, GC, ICP, and other techniques applied in food industry
• Experience with working under GLP requirements
• Experience with LIMS packages, e.g.Unilab, STARLIMS
