Quotes and sayings from William Faulkner

Quotes and sayings from William Faulkner
William Faulkner was an American writer born on September 25, 1897, in New Albany, Mississippi, U.S. He is best known for his novels and short stories set in the fictional Yoknapatawpha County, based on Lafayette County, Mississippi, where Faulkner spent most of his life. Faulkner’s notable works include “The Sound and the Fury,” “As I Lay Dying,” “Absalom, Absalom!,” and “Light in August”. He was awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1949.

Faulkner was born into a family with a rich history in the American South. His great-grandfather, Colonel William Clark Falkner, was a colourful figure who fought gallantly during the Civil War, built a local railway, and published a popular romantic novel called “The White Rose of Memphis”. Faulkner grew up in Oxford, Mississippi, where he experienced the characteristic open-air upbringing of a Southern white youth of middle-class parents. He left high school without graduating but devoted himself to “undirected reading,” first in isolation and later under the guidance of Phil Stone, a family friend who combined study and practice of the law with lively literary interests and was a constant source of current books and magazines.
