We are looking for an experienced Environmental Health Officer, who has some management experience or a relevant qualification and is willing to step-up, and who has a desire for personal growth, continual challenge and who will embrace a holistic approach to improving outcomes for the residents, visitors, and businesses of Colchester.
Job description
Responsibilities include:
To effectively lead and direct the Food & Safety Team to ensure that all relevant matters are dealt with in accordance with statutory requirements and Council
To effectively monitor the team’s performance to ensure it contributes fully towards achieving the Council’s Strategic objectives.
To develop and implement processes and working practices to ensure that all enforcement and inspection duties, and goods and services offered are carried out in a manner that is efficient, effective and customer focused.
To identify opportunities to generate income and work with relevant Officers to implement.
You can expect a busy and varied workload, managing a Team of EHO’s and Technical Officers. The role requires vision and leadership as well as some casework, providing advice and dealing with all issues relating to food inspections, food poisoning, food hygiene, Environmental Health certification and animal licensing.
You will need to be motivated, flexible and committed to personal development and be able to manage a large and varied workload.

Qualifications, skills and experience
Applicants must have:
Environmental Health Degree/Chartered
Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) or
Diploma in Environmental Health
Or
Knowledge and experience shown to be
equivalent to above (for example, one or more approved qualifications in Food and Health and Safety)
AND
Management or Coaching qualification or proven experience in management role
Membership of a relevant professional body e.g. CIEH
A management qualification (ILM Level 3 or higher or equivalent) or relevant experience
An understanding of waste and environmental legislation
A full UK driving licence
