The Gist Productie Bedrijf (GPB) plant is one of the largest plants in the world for the production of yeast extracts. The main process steps are fermentation, enzymatic autolysis, centrifugation, phase separation, distillation, evaporation, decanting and filtration. The GPB has been around for 150 years and is located on the DSM Delft site. It makes use of a batch type process that is highly automated and is operated 7 days a week, 24 hours per day. The plant also delivers steam and electricity for the GPB Production and the Delft site. The site is a multi-user site.

As a Process Safety Engineer you will have the responsibility to continue the process safety studies and give proper follow up on these studies. Due to the age of this plant and the capacity being produced you can imagine that this brings a lot of challenges ahead.

Key-responsibilities

Lead or participate in (Process Safety) studies such as CHA studies, HAZOP studies, Machine Safety studies and Packed Unit Assessments;
Lead or participate in ATEX studies and Explosion Risk Assessments;
Participate in and when required lead process safety investigations;
Be responsible and support for Process Safety issues within the Management of Change procedure including analyzing the impact of modifications on the plants on process safety studies;
Act as Process Safety conscience and address Process Safety issues to senior management;
Participate in the GPB / DSM Audit program, including the self-audit programs from DSM;
Manage and coordinate the Process Safety Gap list and ensure progress;
Support production in case of (process) safety issues, for instance in troubleshooting, helping to identify (temporary) solutions and asses associated SHE risk;
Initiate ideas for, participate and/or lead in continuous improvement programs in order to increase SHE standards, cost efficiency or organizational developments;
Participate in inspection by governmental organizations (i.e. DCMR);
Participate in the international DSM Process Safety TIER-2 group;
Manage and coordinate in verifying safety provisions (mechanical, instrumental, procedural);
Contribute in vision and strategy development on process safety topics in the broadest sense.

You Bring

This position requires a technical Bachelor or Master degree, ideally within Process of Chemical Engineering;
Knowledge and expertise in HAZOP studies, Machine Safety and Area classification, QRA.
Knowledge and expertise in safety provisions (mechanical, instrumental, procedural).
Thorough knowledge of process safety regulations and legislations and on BRZO Act;
Excellent communication and networking/influencing skills;
Strong motivation and ability to become a focal point/authority for Process Safety in Delft
Familiarity with risk identification and reduction techniques, in addition to familiarity with failure mechanisms, protection systems and their design;
Fluency in English as well as Dutch, both verbal and written, is essential in order to perform studies and produce reports of a high quality and accuracy.
