The Role: 

A fantastic opportunity has arisen for an experienced Hygiene Manager to join the team at our Erith Bakery, to enable Hovis to deliver on its vision of being the best quality brand in bakery. The Hygiene Manager will ensure site is compliant with procedures and processes to meet food safety legal requirements and customer standards.

Key Accountabilities:

Delivers site hygiene standards through structured, disciplined and proactive planning, team and system development and effective mentoring and supervision
Manages the overall hygiene infrastructure including relevant systems, equipment and documentation
Develop robust hygiene policies, schedules, operating procedures and deliver in full legal, statutory and effective training
Plan and schedule hygiene activities/projects based on food risk
Carries out detailed audits and effective hygiene quality activities/monitoring
Maintain and deliver fully key hygiene aspects of the sites HACCP system
People management – responsible for embedding a hygiene focussed culture and role model behaviours throughout the hygiene team and influencing effectively across all levels (from shop floor to senior management)
Budgetary control – financial management and cost benefit release related to hygiene specific projects and expenditure (including PPE, chemicals, hygiene equipment and supplies)
Management reporting – relating to achievements, non-conformances, corrective actions and future strategy
Drive hygiene awareness and improvements across the site via focussed best utilisation and direction of hygiene and non hygiene resource
Involvement in audit non-conformance issues and action plans to close out
Support and deliver highest standards in relation to pest control and ongoing improvements

Knowledge, Skills, Qualifications and Experience:

Essential
Knowledge and experience of HACCP
Knowledge and experience of BRC Standards
Strong background and knowledge of Health & Safety policy and standards
Demonstrable experience of managing hygiene based functions within a food manufacturing environment
Relevant hygiene qualifications and training
Ability to lead and influence at all levels (shop floor to senior management) across all site departments
Knowledge and experience of pest control standards and requirements 
Strong management skills
 
Desirable
Advance level HACCP
Advance Food Hygiene( level 4)
BRC or similar standard trained
Strong IT skills
Customer interface experience
Experience of training delivery
Advanced Auditing
Customer Standard  Awareness
