HSE Lead, Hybrid remote, Redcar, UK
Wood Process & Energy is recruiting for a HSE Lead to support an EPC Project in the Teesside Area. This is an exciting opportunity to join a challenging yet rewarding project within a growing organisation.
Reporting operationally to the Project Manager, the purpose of the role is to provide timely advice and guidance on all Health, Safety, Security and Environmental matters across the project lifecycle. Functionally reporting to the local Senior HSSE Manager, the successful candidate will also form part of the Wood Operations EMEA - HSSE Team and therefore have access to an extensive support network.
Ideally, the successful candidate should be immediately available and residing in the North East of England.

Key Accountabilities/Responsibilities:
Providing strategic advice and guidance to their Managers on all HSSE related matters
Ensure the development, maintaining and continual improvement of a project HSSE Execution Plan, supporting its effective and consistent implementation
Support Project Engineering and Construction Managers with the effective management of lifecycle HSSE risks, including maintaining a Project HSSE risks and opportunities register
Ensure relevant legal and other requirements are identified and complied with including the requirements of the Construction, Design and Management Regulations
Providing support to Project / Construction Managers and HSSE Advisors in the development and roll-out of Group / local HSSE objectives and initiatives
Providing support to senior Managers in incident and accident investigations through the use of an appropriate Investigation process (e.g. Helix or Taproot)
Monitoring ‘best-practice’ and ‘lessons learned’ from across the wider organisation and external environment ensuring relevant opportunities are captured and embedded into the project HSSE arrangements
Support the project / Construction manager with the development of an effective risk-based assurance program and participate as required
Ensure HSSE support is provided to the approval, selection and oversight of sub-contractors / suppliers and client appointed contractors including input into ITT documents, bid evaluations and construction phase management
Establish a project performance monitoring program including key performance indicators, ensuring the provision of support to senior Managers and HSSE Advisors in the timely reporting of both leading and lagging HSSE Indicators
Undertaking leading / lagging indicator reviews to identify trends and providing timely advice to Senior Project & Function Management on required actions to address associated risks and opportunities
Ensure a project specific HSSE induction program is developed and that inductions are delivered to new employees / contractors deployed onto the project
In consultation with relevant internal and external stakeholders develop an effective incident and emergency response plan for the construction area
Ensure project environmental aspects / impacts are understood and mitigated in line with company policy, legal and client requirements
Recruit a subordinate HSSE team as required by the project and provide effective line management, mentoring and training to subordinates
Identify and establish productive relationships with internal and external stakeholders (particularly client stakeholders) ensuring their needs are met and project benefit is leveraged

Skills / Qualifications
Essentials:
NEBOSH Certificate or equivalent
Trained and competent Internal Auditor
RCA – Accident/incident Investigator Training, e.g. 5 Why / Helix / Taproot
Membership of a recognised HSSE related institute i.e. IOSH, MIIRSM, IEMA etc
Over 5 years in a technical role or HSSE role in a relevant industry
Some experience fulfilling CDM duties in particular the Principal Contractor role
Desirables:
NEBOSH Diploma, or equivalent
ONC/HNC or equivalent in Technical, HSSE or related industry
Degree in relevant technical, industry or HSSEQ specific discipline
Trained and competent External Auditor
Over 2 years experience leading a team
Some experience in a HSSE role on an EPC Project including pre construction exposure
Excellent working knowledge with relevant legislation and industry codes & standards
Good planning and organisational skills
Effective/competent MS Office Suite User
High level of communication skills in both written and spoken format
Highly developed influencing and interpersonal skills
Strong networking skills
