Job Description

This position is responsible for managing the overall environmental, health, and safety activities with the primary goals of zero injuries, regulatory compliance and continual improvement. This position will manage a program that ensures compliance with applicable EHS regulations. Based in Burlington, ON with travel up to 30%.

How to apply


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Develop, implement, and manage safety programs (LOTO, Hazard Communication, Emergency Response, Fall Protection, Respiratory Protection, Hearing Conservation, etc.) to ensure compliance with environmental, health and safety regulations at multiple locations (Ontario, Alberta).

Develop specific environmental, health and safety objectives and create actions plans to meet those objectives.

Partner with business leaders to promote a proactive safety culture focused on incident prevention and regulatory compliance.

Develop, implement, manage and support pandemic-response related activities.

Maintain, review and report EHS performance, identifying opportunities for improvement along with implementing preventative and corrective actions as required.

Provide or coordinate all EHS training to comply with regulations.
Investigate accidents and prepare required reports. Identify countermeasures to prevent reoccurrence.
Coordinate and perform industrial hygiene testing.
Provide new hire orientation outlining high expectations regarding safety rules and regulations.
Organize and participate in all Joint Health Safety Committee (JHSC) activities.
Perform frequent environmental and safety audits to ensure compliance with regulations

Assist in the development of a behavior-based safety program.
Assist workers’ compensation loss control program, which includes monitoring claim levels, reducing costs, and early return to work.
Develop, implement, and support environmental activities, including air, water, waste, and spill response.
Recommend changes in policies, procedures, work environment and equipment to prevent accidents and illness.
Incorporate ergonomics in the workplace, and conduct Job Safety Analysis as required.

Qualifications

Post-secondary school diploma or degree in Occupational Health & Safety or related field or study.

Must possess a theoretical and practical knowledge of regulatory EHS standards including Ontario and Alberta.

High knowledge of current safety and loss control practices is essential.

Excellent verbal and written communication skills at all levels.

Must be able to effectively communicate safety and environmental procedures in training.

Must be proficient in Word, Excel and Powerpoint.

1-3 years of EHS experience in a manufacturing environment.
