Position Overview
We’re looking for a talented and suitably experienced person to join us as a Quality Manager in Group Technical Services (GTS) based in anyone of our European offices. GTS has many successful, ongoing initiatives focused on Performance improvement, Quality improvement and the environment.
This new and challenging role that reports to the Process Director - GTS, will be responsible for supporting the delivery of optimal quality clinker and cement to meet CRH customer expectations as well as ensuring that all plant laboratories provide expert level performance.
The successful candidate will also ensure that our production facilities are aware of quality developments in the sector and are well placed to implement such developments effectively as required. In this role you will also communicate with management to confirm they are fully informed on all quality issues. You will also actively participate as a CRH ambassador or representative in any relevant research and development programs.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities
In this role you will be responsible for a number of evolving tasks including:
• Managing CRH’s Central Lab Steering group
• Designing relevant programmes for CRH’s central lab and supporting the central lab accreditation to ISO 17025
• Managing the annual CRH “round robin” testing commitment for cement plant laboratories
• Participating, as required in the resolution of technical problems by customers
• Representing CRH in GCCA Innovandi and Nanocem’s Technical Management Board
• Leading the CRH Quality Task Force group to achieve
o full compliance with relevant national and regional standards
o expert level performance of all cement plant laboratories
o Promotion and facilitation of knowledge transfer among the quality manager community in CRH
o effective training of laboratory staff
o availability of all necessary standard operating procedures
o implementation and adherence of the CRH quality policy
• Active participation in CRH Technical Management Team initiatives
Key competencies and relevant experience
To be successful in this role you will ideally need to hold a PhD in Chemistry, Mineralogy or Material Science together with proven experience of working in the cement industry. It is likely that this will be for a period of no less than 15 years, as this will have allowed your expert knowledge of quality control and standards in the cement and concrete industry to be developed. You should have knowledge on best practice in the cement /concrete industry and a track record of understanding the cement and concrete production processes, raw materials, equipment and cement/concrete products as well as an awareness of current and future challenges to the cement sector.
As a subject matter expert your experience in advising senior management will also be critical.
Key behavioural competencies required for this role includes the ability to build and manage a diverse team as well as managing a range of internal and external stakeholders and dealing with their concerns. You’ll have the autonomy in driving performance and challenging the operation so well developed communication skills are a necessity.
