This post is for candidates actively interested in promoting healthy food in Newham. The 'Healthy Catering Commitment' programme identifies good businesses and encourages them to modify their menus to include healthier options.
38% of Children in London are obese, 25% of Takeaways in the UK are within 5 minutes of a school, 20% of adults and children eat takeaway meals at home at least once a week.
The Healthy Catering Commitment encourages good businesses to adopt healthy options on their menus. By making simple changes to ingredients, processes and portion size, businesses can not only improve the diet of their customers but increase their profits as well.
The post holder will ideally have a background in Public Health, Nutrition, Food Sciences, Health Promotion or Environmental Health. They will be responsible for actively identifying suitable candidates for the programme and will work closely with food business operators to ensure that they meet all the eligibility criteria. The post holder will also work closely with Newham's Food Safety EHO's in identifying good practice, reporting on poor compliance and promoting the uptake and display of allergen information (Natasha's law).
The post requires detailed record keeping, report writing, making presentations and an ability to work well with people in a diverse and challenging environment .

The London Borough of Newham is looking for a candidate with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to drive forward the 'Healthy Catering Commitment' programme and other health initiatives for food businesses within the Commercial Environmental Health Team. Suitable candidates will have background in a health related field &/or relevant local authority experience.

ABOUT US
The London Borough of Newham is located only 5 miles east of London. It is well positioned with access to all major networks in London and the south east. It is well connected by public transport with, bus, tube and DLR. When the Crossrail service opens it will call at Custom House close to our council offices and also Stratford station and from there to central London. The London City Airport which serves major European cities is located at Royal Albert Dock. Newham has the youngest overall population in the country. It was one of the six host boroughs for the 2012 Summer Olympics and contains most of the Olympic Park including the London Stadium.
It has a thriving arts quarter with the both the Theatre Royal Stratford East and Stratford Circus Arts Centre offering excellent entertainment for all the family. There is the University of East London which has two campuses in Newham, one in Stratford and another next to the regenerated Royal Albert Dock. It also has a large Westfield shopping Centre in Stratford which has all the major retailers there.
Newham has a large housing regeneration programme that will build over 1,000 new council homes by 2022.
