Dow Polyurethanes has a challenging opportunity for a Senior Improvement Engineer (m/f/d) in the Isocyanates business located in Böhlen, Germany, supporting the Böhlen Aniline plant. Aniline is an essential part of the Polyurethanes value chain, and supports as main raw material the downstream PMDI plant. The production facility contains a wide range of chemical processing unit operations, and offers highly interesting work for the technologically inquisitive and motivated applicant.
Working closely with the Global Improvement Leader, the Senior Improvement Engineer leads the plant-level improvement process by gathering and analyzing data, evaluating improvement opportunities, and implementing improvement projects. This role ensures plant improvements align with business objectives via the Plant Specific Technology Plan to close performance gaps, reduce costs, and increase productivity (capacity creep, reliability, etc.). In addition, the Improvement Engineer provides expense and capital project support, which may include filling various roles in the global project execution work processes, such as project manager, manufacturing representative, Six Sigma green/black belt, etc.
Serves as a vital resource for Operations by applying technical and organizational skills to drive the plant level continuous improvement program targeted at delivering maximum value from the assets, while continuously improving process safety and production efficiency. Requires expanded conceptual and practical knowledge in own job discipline and broadens capabilities.
Key Job Responsibilities:
-Possesses in-depth process technology and continuous improvement skill sets helping to establish credibility with the operations team.
-Drives knowledge exchange with technology experts to increase awareness of potential improvement opportunities for the technology. Serves as the implementation arm of the technology center.
-Partners with the experts to develop and implement a Plant Specific Technology Plan that delivers positive year-over-year ROC (return on capital) and non-capital continuous improvement while meeting the plant level EH&S improvement goals.
-Partners with plant operation and maintenance personnel to identify and track performance indicators to be used in identification of technology gaps and continuous improvement opportunities.
-Identifies and evaluates opportunities for improvement using internal and external benchmarking data
-Supports the facility root cause investigation process by serving as a team member or facilitator for incidents related to process technology.
-Leads and supports plant continuous improvement activities aligned to the PSTP and also supports the capital plan for the facility.
-Leads continuous improvement activities for the facility and may serve in specific Global Project Methodology-related roles of the project manager or manufacturing representative.
-Participates in the on-call program for plant immediate response and advising similar to other day support roles.
-Monitors and measures implementation of the technology plans.
-Serves as Management of Change owner for appointed areas
-Leads the Plant Improvement Team and assures proper set-up and use of global opportunity identification tools (Opportunity Tracking System, Idea Tracker, etc.)
-Implements Most Effective Technology where needed and develops safe start-up and operation procedures
-Implements operating discipline and trains operations on process improvement projects
-Conducts plant trials in support of projects, or to validate opportunities
-Participates fully in the plant’s various EH&S programs, and may lead process safety and/or Technology Center audits on behalf of the plant
-Provides technical plant support in specialized areas, which could include process simulation, modeling, risk analysis, and process optimization
-Serves as the Plant Energy and Raw Efficiency Focal Point to drive energy intensity and raw material efficiency improvements and leverage solutions across Isocyanates
Required Qualifications:
-A minimum of a Bachelor's degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering is required.
-Ability to quickly learn and understand new technologies is required.
Preferred Qualifications:
-A Master's degree in Chemical Engineering is a plus.
-Plant operating experience is desirable.
-Experience with process simulation is a plus as well as experience with ABB process control systems.
Required Language Skills:
Advanced language skills in German and English required
