Our vision for Food Safety is to support Amazon’s mission of offering the widest selection of products available, while protecting customers from potentially hazardous products. We are looking for a dynamic and organized self-starter to join our Food Safety team, focusing on Retail/Grocery Food Safety.

This role will support food safety programs in the retail food operations within Amazon to ensure food safety compliance requirements are met. The position may be filled in Seattle or remotely. Needed Skills and Abilities:
• Influencer: Ability to identify opportunities, influence business teams and operations to gain support for food safety and overcome resistance by creating strong, persuasive, balanced positions through the use of data.
• Doer: No job is too trivial. Food Safety team members dive deep and have exceptional attention to detail. Must have the ability to successfully visualize and drive end-to-end process requirements, program implementation, and continuous improvement, working through the many obstacles along the way.
• Communicator: Ability to communicate food safety and quality expectations and requirements with business leaders and cross-functional support teams.
• Problem Solver: Crisis events require quick, high-judgment decisions, and the ability to direct teams to work through difficult challenges.

As a high-level summary the deliverables are:
• Provide governance and continuous improvement in complex food safety programs related to temperature controls across all Amazon businesses.
• Implement, train and validate Retail Food Safety Operations programs and processes to drive food safety execution at the retail level.
• Write policies, standards, and SOPs for food business processes and procedures.
• Leverage technology to automate and manage compliance processes.
• Drive food safety compliance across a large business by analyzing data to identify compliance trends. Update policies/procedures to close operational food safety gaps.
• Create and monitor business metrics to track compliance and process effectiveness.

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s degree in Food Science or a related field;
• 5 years of experience managing Food Safety and Quality in a large scale retail or manufacturing environment (multi-store/multi-plant);
• Knowledgeable in local, state, and federal food regulations (including USDA and FDA);
• Experience interacting with the state and local regulators including Department of Health;
• Experience leveraging technology to drive process improvements;
• Program management experience;

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

• Master’s degree in Food Science or related field
• Participation in Food Industry Councils and Working Groups
• Frequent interaction with local, state, and federal food regulations
• Experience as a food manufacturing QA manager, auditor, or similar
Exceptional organizational skills;
• Strong verbal and written communication skills;
• Ability to work independently and autonomously;
• Demonstrated collaborative skills and ability to work well within a team, including adherence to core values and dynamic corporate culture;
• Self-motivated with critical attention to detail, deadlines and reporting;
• Must be willing to travel frequently..
• Experience using and suggesting improvements to product management technology, including Customer Feedback Trending software, Facility Auditing or Response Management software, Supplier Database, or Product Life Cycle Management software
• HACCP / CP-FS or REHS Certified
• Online/retail experience
• Six Sigma/FMEA experience

The pay range for this position in Colorado is $$98,000 to 148,000/[yr]; however, base pay offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. A sign-on bonus and restricted stock units may be provided as part of the compensation package, in addition to a full range of medical, financial, and/or other benefits, dependent on the position offered.
