We are looking for a seasoned Quality, Health, Safety & Environmental (QHSE) Specialist who will work in collaboration with all departments, to oversee aspects of DDC’s QHSE Management Programs including quality assurance in production, supplier quality, training and health, safety & environment. The candidate will also be responsible for developing, implementing and improving processes and procedures to support business operations in accordance with ISO 9001, ISO 14001, ISO 45001.

The role reports to the Director of People & Culture with a secondary reporting line to the Vice president, Flight Operations & Technology. Interaction with the Executive Leadership Team, customers, suppliers, government regulators and strategic partners should be expected

Emphasis will be initially placed on Quality Improvement and responsibilities include:

-Prepare, revise, and manage DDC’s Quality Management System.
-Develop, modify, apply, and maintain quality evaluation and control systems and protocols.
-Recommend and implement new or improved quality control methods, procedures, work instructions, and/or standards.
-Devise and implement methods and procedures for inspecting, testing, and evaluating the precision and accuracy of products and production equipment.
-Collaborate with the engineering laboratory and assembly functions to ensure quality standards are in place and adequately followed.
-Utilize quality tools to help drive continuous improvement.
-Preparing Audit schedules, conducting Internal Audits, preparing audit reports, and write Nonconformity reports from the Audit.
-Communicate to the executive team on Quality trends, non-conformities, audit reports, and opportunities for improvement.
-Manage the non-conformance reporting and corrective/preventative action process.

Health, Safety & Environment:

-Lead Corporate initiatives, provide guidance, and support to the various departments in the areas of: workplace health and safety programs, including development and implementation of policies, procedures, guidelines and employee education; injury management and return to work; legal compliance; and WSIB claims
-Identify needs, develop and communicate the implementation of the company’s health and safety programs.
-Provide education, consultation at new hire onboarding and beyond to all employees on job-specific hazards and legal and quality standards and assist in their integration into daily activities.
-Schedule and chair monthly Joint Health and Safety Committee meetings as is required by regulatory standards and facilitate the activities of the safety committee. Document safety meeting minutes and distribute to all management, coupled with resolutions and feasibility of solutions requested.
-Oversee the compilation, updating and distribution of health and safety related documentation as required at the assigned worksites.
-Lead and complete all workplace H&S investigations, injury reporting, documentation, and claims management to WSIB and other stakeholders as required.
-Conduct H & S accident investigations to identify causal factors and develop a corrective action to mitigate the risk of future occurrences..
-Monitor and evaluate accident frequency, severity, and impact for the purposes of targeted improvement, prevention, and cost reduction.
-Identify hazards and issue safety communication to employees, develop and prepare risk reports, and perform job hazard analysis as required.
-Conduct housekeeping walks and identify any actual and potential hazards.
-Ensure appropriate supplies of first aid and PPE are maintained and develop company emergency exit plan.
-Assist in the development and delivery of workplace compliance related documents as may be required from time to time.
-Provide input and guidance on the tools, methodologies and best practices the Company will use and KPIs & reporting methodologies
-Liaise with team members, 3rd party consultants, government agencies and varied stakeholders to ensure H&S programs are on-time and in constant compliance.
-Review project plans and prepare presentation materials for management.
-Contribute to knowledge transfer by providing functional guidance, peer review, mentoring & training.
-Other duties as assigned/required from time to time.

QHSE Training & Awareness:

-Oversee the training & awareness at DDC.
-Conduct or implement specialized training for staff, i.e., evacuation procedures, actions in the event of an emergency.
-Promote Safety and Quality awareness for all staff using internal trainings.

Education, Professional Development & Work Experience:

-Experience in Quality Management: minimum 2 years (preferred)
-A minimum of 3+ years of health and safety program management experience
-Experience with implementation, management & audit of ISO9001, ISO14001, OHSAS18001/ISO45001
-A Bachelor’s degree or diploma in Occupational Health & Safety Management or equivalent
-Canadian Registered Safety Professional Certification is a definite asset
-Demonstrated knowledge and understanding of legislation and regulations, including Human Rights Code (duty to accommodate), Workplace Safety and Insurance Act and Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA)
-Strong knowledge of Workplace Safety & Prevention programs, including: safety checklists, duties & responsibilities, health & safety policy, posting requirements, JHSC & inspections, hazards, training & orientation, first aid, injury reporting, return to work, etc.
-Excellent knowledge of occupational health and safety legislation and best practice procedures is required
-Working knowledge of WHMIS, TDG and CVOR programs
-Certificate of Recognition (COR) knowledge will be an asset
-Lean Six Sigma Certification (Green+) or similar is an asset
-Experience in aviation, aerospace, engineering, technology, logistics or manufacturing preferred
-Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook) is required
-Superior English written and verbal communication and presentation skills with the ability to articulate multifaceted concepts and critical issues in a simple, compelling and concise manner for presentations and discussions with colleagues, senior management, customers, regulators and other stakeholders.

Hours of Work, Work Environment and Potential Travel

-40 hours per week and some overtime occasionally
-9:00am to 5:00pm
-Position is predominantly a sedentary office function but exposure to an engineering lab, industrial environments and field projects is expected
-May be required to travel from time to time domestically, and possibly internationally
-Valid Class-G driver’s license in good standing and regular access to a personal vehicle required
