The Quality Control Supervisor is responsible for managing all quality-related activities at the Burnaby (BC) Milk Plant, including direct supervision of QC team, overseeing all lab functions to ensure completion and adherence to industry and corporate standards, maintaining quality system documentation and HACCP programs, monitoring and enforcing GMP practices to ensure food safety, quality and defense.

Outline of Duties

-Apply Quality Assurance Programs (GFSI, SQF, HACCP, etc.) to the QC department
-Oversee and monitor all lab activities and scheduling to ensure completion of lab tasks.
-Perform verification and trending activities for lab results and escalate issues to management as required.
-Monitor day-to-day plant processes to ensure compliance to food safety standards. Verify and maintain all quality system records.
-Act as a resource for employees in matters relating to quality. Issue corrective actions when needed
-Monitor and enforce GMP practices followed by plant employees.
-Maintain HACCP and SQF program implementation and reassessment. Lead monthly meetings
-Participate in all internal and external audits (ie. Third party audits, CFIA, etc.)
-Participate in troubleshooting activities to address non-compliant results (e.g. RCA, investigations, etc)
-Work with other department supervisors to ensure compliance to quality standards
-Ensure new policies and procedures are communicated and effectively implemented by lab staff
-Provide training and support for laboratory staff to develop their skills in problem solving, investigating and documentation
-Assists the Quality Control Manager and serve as their replacement when required
-Participate and carry out process improvement initiatives and plant project taskforces when required
-Performs any other tasks deemed necessary


Requirements

-Minimum Bachelor’s Degree in Food Science, Food technology or another relevant field
-Must have supervisory experience in dairy or other food manufacturing
-Strong knowledge of quality assurance, GFSI, SQF, HACCP programs, and dairy laws and regulations
-SQF and HACCP certification is an asset
-Strong interpersonal, communication, leadership skills and the ability to work in a team
-Must have lab experience demonstrating attention to detail, analytical skills and problem-solving ability
-Proficient in Microsoft office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc)
