ROLE
The Business Change Manager (BCM) will look to drive and support the adoption and embedding of change activities through the identification, planning, and application of best practice change management.
Working with the Sponsor and Programme Manager/Workstream Business Lead, the Change Manager is responsible for defining the benefits, assessing the progress towards realisation, and achieving measured improvements in the business operation.
The BCM must be the bridge between the programme and business operations. The BCM works on a person-to-person basis with the Sponsor/Workstream Business Lead on the project and their Business Change Leads, helping maximise employee adoption and usage and minimise resistance as well as mitigate any negative impacts. The key objective is to improve employee adoption of the changes, leading to more proficiency and better business results.
Main areas of responsibility
• Ensuring the interests of the Programme Sponsor are met by the programme
• Obtaining assurance for the Programme Sponsor that the delivery of new capability is compatible with the realisation of benefits
• Working with the Programme Director and designated Business Change Lead to ensure that the work of the programme, including the scope of each project, covers the necessary aspects required to deliver the products or services that will lead to operational benefits
• Identifying, defining and tracking the benefits and outcomes required of the programme
• Establishing and implementing the mechanisms by which benefits can be delivered and measured
• Leading the activities associated with benefits realisation and ensuring that continued accrual of benefits can be achieved and measured after the programme has been completed
• Working with the Programme Manager to identify projects that will contribute to realising benefits and achieving outcomes
• Actively supporting Business Change Leads in transition management, ensuring that business as usual is maintained during the transition and the changes are effectively integrated into the business
• Ensuring that maximum improvements are made in existing and new business operations as groups of projects deliver their outputs into operational use
• Optimising the timing of the release of project deliverables into business operations
• Ability to manage risks and overcome issues that prevent the programme, team, or the change, from being successful.
• Manages key central formal communications for all project changes
• Leads the development and ongoing maintenance of tools and techniques to support Business Change Leads in affected business areas as they lead the transition to new ways of working, across project, BAU and process
• Preparing and presenting clear and concise reporting
REQUIREMENTS
• Ability to identify and internally recruit effective Business Change Leads from relevant business areas - their participation in the programme should be an integral part of their normal responsibilities to enable changes resulting from the programme to be firmly embedded in the organisation
• Ability to rapidly develop detailed knowledge of the business environment and understand commercial imperatives - in particular, understanding of the management structures, politics and culture of the organisation owning the programme
• Have effective marketing and communication skills to sell the programme vision to all levels of the organisation
• Experience and knowledge of change management principles, tools and techniques such as business process modelling and re-engineering
• Good working knowledge of defining and tracking benefits with large-scale organisational change
• Exceptional communication skills, both written and verbal
• Strong interpersonal skills-gets people to buy in and deliver to a high standard.
• Ability to influence others and move toward a common vision or goal
• Flexible and adaptable; able to work in ambiguous situations
• Ability to influence and work effectively at all levels in an organisation
• Strong coordination skills-able to maintain many tasks to a high standard.
• Must be a team player and able to work collaboratively with and through others
• Familiarity with project management approaches, tools, and phases of the project lifecycle
• Happy to travel if required and build on the ground planning process.
• Change management certification desired but not essential
